Authentications (Apostille)

Apostilles authenticate the seals and signatures of officials on documents issued by a public authority so that they can be recognized in foreign countries that are members of the 1961 Hague Convention Treaty.

Virginia Commonwealth University’s Office of the University Registrar prepares a notarized statement confirming the authenticity of academic diplomas and official transcripts.

Once a document is notarized, it may then be sent to the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia for authentication if this level of authentication is needed. For more information on authentications, visit the Secretary of Commonwealth’s website or call the Secretary of the Commonwealth at 1-866-767-8683.
